The Last 26 Days of School!

We are on the count down to the end of this very unusual school year.  Why not join the daily challenge for the last 26 days of school.  This alphabet count down provides opportunities to dress-up and learn something new.  We are inviting you to post pictures on Facebook and share the fun.

You Got a Friend in Me--Video

I am sure that you have seen other organisations making combination videos. We’re missing everyone at Ballyhenry so we’ve decided to make our own video with everyone from our school so we can all see our friends! Please send your videos by 31-05-2020

What we need you to do:- ·

  1. Click on this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFq8EIzFtkg (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFq8EIzFtkg ) · Follow the words and practice singing along to ‘You’ve got a ...friend in me!’ ·
  • Draw a picture of your friend/s from school. ·
  • Get an adult to film you holding your picture and singing along to the backing track. ·
  • Send the video to pcollins589@c2kni.net

Note: Each class will be on screen singing a different part of the song so it is important that you film each child separately and ensure your class is in the subject of the email. Looking forward to seeing your videos!

Life in Lockdown Challenge!

This is a challenge for every member of the community....pupils, parents, grandparents.....classroom assistance, teachers, staff and governors. We can all join in. Write a short account about what every day life is like for you. Your story should be no more than 200 words and should include a photograph. Younger children can draw pictures and parents can scribe for them. Send your submission to school as soon as you can  (lknocker496@c2kni.net). We will gather these together and create a memory book.

The best ones will be sent to the Education Authority who want to know about our new normal. We have been asked to gather this information to demonstrate the sense of community and good practice happening in Ballyhenry. There may even be prizes for your submissions!

Learning Packs

Each teacher has prepared learning packs for their pupils. This includes literacy and numeracy activities, resources and reading book. It is expected that this work will be completed at home and returned to school to be marked. It is essential that resources are kept safe and returned to school whenever it is possible.

Daily Work Diary

Pupils will have a daily diary to complete. In their diary they can record what they have done in each of the designated curricular area. For the younger children, their homework helper can write what they have covered in each area. The children can draw a picture and self-evaluate their work. On the back of this diary you will find information regarding how your child can access My School and other useful learning platforms (i.e. Mangahigh for P3+, Accelerated Reader P4+)

Email Mr Robinson if you are having trouble.  If you do not have his address please email lknocker496@c2kni.net and the request will be sent to him.

Digital Learning

Using the C2K platform, teachers have been busy adding links and activities that can be accessed on line from any device that has access the internet. We will be using Fronter as our primary method of sharing work. This is accessible through "My School" which the children have used in school and can be accessed from home. Usernames and passwords are found on the back of the Daily Work Diary.

My School--Fronter
Log on to your My School Account and follow your link to fronter. Teachers are adding new activities on a weekly basis.

Homework Submission via the app

There is be a form on our app that parents. You will be able to specify your child's name, class and then take a photo of their work or activity. This should be submitted and will be directed to their teacher.

Teachers' Email

Each child have been given a copy of their teachers' school email address. The pupils (or their homework helper) can send an email to ask any questions.  If you do not have their email address please email lknocker496@c2kni.net and this information will be sent to them.

Weekly Check-in on Zoom

We have been using Zoom to connect with pupils and parents through video conferencing. We are setting up several meetings each week to give you maximum support. There is no obligation to join but it does give us all a chance to connect digitally. Simply download zoom to your mobile device. Enter the meeting code and then join the meeting. You will need to allow Zoom to access you camera and microphone. It should prompt you to do this. Zoom also works on a PC/Mac. It allows you to see all the different participants a little bit easier. Your computer/laptop needs to have a mic and camera for it to work.

You will be given a schedule of meetings on a Sunday by 8:00 p.m. It will include the meeting dates, times and code. Meeting will be opened between 5 to 10 minutes before the meeting and last no more than 30 minutes. Here is our developing plan for Zoom:

Mondays at 11:00: Whole school Wave-in

This will involves simply logging on and waving. Mrs Knocker will give you the challenge for the week and the thinking behind it.

Tuesdays: Class Check-in P1 to P4c

These meeting will be hosted by teachers (where possible) and classroom assistants will join when they can. Initially the pupils will talk freely with each other as they log on. Teachers will then be able to mute the pupils and do a question and answer session as well as something that is unique to their class (i.e. reading stories, singing songs, talking about books or current events). Each session will end with a wave off.

Wednesdays: Class Check-in P4F to P7

These meeting will be hosted by teachers (where possible) and classroom assistants will join when they can. Initially the pupils will talk freely with each other as they log on. Teachers will then be able to mute the pupils and do a question and answer session as well as something that is unique to their class (i.e. reading stories, singing songs, talking about books or current events). Each session will end with a wave off.

Thursdays: School Assembly 11:00

These sessions will be modelled off the familiarity of school life. We logon and wave. We will share a chorus we frequently sing in school. Mrs Knocker or another speaker will share a short thought (no more than 5 minutes). We will then end with another school chorus.

Fridays: Individual/Parent Check ins

We will run parent check-ins throughout the day on Friday. You can select the time that works for you. If you feel that your child needs an individual chat with their teacher, their classroom assistant or someone else we can book this in. Please email lknocker496@c2kni.net for more information.

Note: Please remember that we are all in the same situation. We are all working from home, juggling the demands of working from home with the needs of our loved ones. Our internet is struggling to keep up with what we need to do This is a completely new situation. We have always been a fantastic community and we will grow in strength and compassion in the coming weeks.
